Tuesday May 8th
Sadly slowed down by a bug , but up and running again now! I have had a couple of quiet days to recover, rearranged the missed trip to Uluru and done a few essential bits of organising before leaving on Thursday for Uluru.
This afternoon I called in at the bookshop on the way to the beach. I am looking for a book by an official Australian Living Treasure but no one seems to stock it. In the car park I did a passable imitation of a school run mum in a car far too big for her to manage. My policy is to err on the side of caution and give everyone a very wide berth. If that entails taking up most of my side of the road then so be it! Very fortunately Australians are very much more generous with the size of their parking spaces (parks) so, with a bit of manoeuvering I can make a fair attempt at parking. (The battery is flat on the other car.)
The beach, which is rapidly becoming my favourite spot in Adelaide was, as usual, deserted so I walked north towards the river, stopping only to watch the kite surfers at Henley. They were amazing, quite difficult to spot at first but, nearer shore, doing the most fantastic jumps, turns and flips. The wind was very strong so they were going at quite a pace. A yacht out in the bay had pulled down the sails (there must be a nautical term for that), and motored across the bay , so maybe it was too strong to sail. I then went back to a spot on the dunes where I can sit comfortably with my book and waited for the dusk (and the dog walkers!) I shall really miss the sea.The beach is so peaceful, tucked behind the sand dunes, and the ocean seems to go on forever.
