The flight to Melbourne was very long and very dull! Unfortunately it was a daytime (for Dubai) flight and arrived in Melbourne at 6.45 a.m. so missed a night along the way. Very excited to get on the plane to Adelaide and nearly missed Bill and Pauline who were waiting for me when I got off the plane.

Their house is lovely, it’s a single storey building with beautiful wooden floors and a lovely patio type garden with an enormous eucalyptus tree and, of course a barbecue! Although very central it is off the main road and so very peaceful.

We spent the evening telling each other all the things we think we ought to know about our houses (and which I am sure we will all forget!)  We actually have possums in the garden, but as they are nocturnal I haven’t managed to stay awake to see one yet. Today we went for a walk round the neighbourhood which can be best described as a very leafy suburb, beautiful gardens full of the type of plants we keep indoors in Europe! Within walking distance there is everything one could want and there is a bus stop right outside to take me into the city should I prefer that to driving. I have the choice of two cars; a large 4wd and a smaller saloon.

Later we went to Pauline’s sister for a barbie(!); her husband, John is rather an expert cook, and had a lovely evening during which I was made to feel really welcome. There were some beautiful parrots in the trees and more lovely gardens. On the way home we drove up to Windy Point, a superb vantage point in the Adelaide hills looking right over the city. The view was spectacular and I shall return in the daytime to take photos. We then drove home via all the downtown sights, including  Gouger Street  which has masses of restaurants from all over the world.
