Wednesday 2nd March

Realising that my holiday will soon be coming to an end, I determined to finish seeing all the things in Sydney I had promised myself. Today I went for a circular walk taking in some of the districts I have heard about but not visited.

The first was Darlinghurst and I was really surprised to see a completely different part of the city. I think it is probably a bit like Notting Hill and Camden a few years ago; up and coming. There are certainly some lovely leafy streets and old houses,

just ripe for renovation, and it was so calm and quiet compared with some other parts of the city. Kings Cross is one of the seedier parts of town so I thought the morning was probably the best time to see it, but have to admit it didn't look at all bad! There was more interesting street art, this one called Rocks in the Sky, fairly obvious why!

Pretty fountains and more leafy squares continued as I walked towards Potts Point and on to Woolloomooloo, couldn't resist the name! This part of Sydney appeared to be build on a rocky hillside and there are long flights of steps all over the place, and, of course, being Australia, there are scores of fit people running up and down them in sharp contrast to yours truly's  geriatric effort.

From here I reached the Catholic cathedral,

where any peace was impossible due to large groups of Chinese tourists touting the inevitable selfie sticks and obviously unaware of the need for a modicum of quiet. (Grumpy)

I had intended o visit the museum but realised I wouldn't have time to see everything decided to leave it for a morning visit. On the way back called in at the Anglican Cathedral (admiring the very swish school attached to it)

and two well loved iconic buildings, the Vic building

and the Town Hall
